Can we all agree that 90s fashion was… let me rephrase, the 90s, in general, feels like this alternate universe that was not only wild and rebellious but also just effortlessly chic grunge which is downright rad. I find myself constantly obsessing over 90s trends, 90s music, 90s red carpet looks, Winona Ryder (obviously), Kate Moss, Carrie Bradshaw circa 1998 Season 1 of Sex and the City. I could go on and on, I’ve been inspired by the 90s for as long as I can remember but it has been within the last year or so that I walk into any given store and notice the 90s are making a major come back. Some people are vibing this millennial paradise, but not everyone! It all started with chockers and fishnets and now stores are filled with holographic get-ups, platform footwear and denim on denim is no longer a Brittney and Justin red carpet no-no but an iconic representation of exactly how it should be…but don’t call it a comeback!
“If the love doesn’t feel like 90s R&B, I Don’t Want It”
So with all that being said, I thought it would be fun to do a blog post that features some of my all-time favorite 90s fashion moments. ♡
This has been one of my favorite- Gwyneth Paltrow, Ralph Lauren, 1999…Sleeping Beauty??? Not exactly, but easily mistaken for a real-life Miss. Aurora.
To be honest, some people believe Salma Hayek’s ensemble was a bit much for her first ever Academy Awards but for me, this outfit comes together precisely by the additional elegance of the jeweled headband style tiara.
Two words: WINONA RYDER. Style Icon. Effortless Grunge. Street Chic. She is literally the inspiration for so many young women even now in 2017. Some people may not even realize this but her moody punk aesthetic from the 90s is where stores like Forever 21 are sourcing their trends and reviving them. She is the definition of all black everything, minimalistic chic and I love it.
In the days of Catwoman, Halle Berry stunned in this super sleek black dress. Honestly to this day, I have never seen a dress fit someone like a glove any better than this.
GLITTER AND HOLOGRAPHIC EVERYTHING. It almost as if everyone in the 90s was glowing. Versace has been one of my favorite designers for a long time and to this day glitter and sparkle can be found incorporated in each collection. Glitter was such a predominant trend of the 90s so there is no wondering why Versace chose to dazzle with glitter in their Spring 2018 Supermodel era reunion show. New York Fashion week collectively was showered with glitter, sequins, and diamonds, proving that the 90s culture is alive and well.
